Welcome to my webpage
I am an Assistant Researcher at the Laser and Plasma Group of Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon, and Invited Assistant Professor at the Physics Department. In these pages you can find information about my work and interests.
Most of my research takes place in the frame of IST's Laboratory for Intense Lasers, an experimental facility dedicated to ultra high-intensity laser matter interaction. I am responsible for the operation and development of a high-power Ti:sapphire/Nd:glass laser system based on the chirped-pulse amplification concept, and I supervise the Laboratory's laser team.
My other scientific interests include nonlinear optics, ultrashort pulse characterisation, pulse propagation in large laser systems, novel amplification concepts and optical physics.
When I am not at work I like to spend my time reading avidly, playing or listening to music, writing, creating webpages (such as this one), or just surfing the web. But most likely I'll be busy - and enjoying myself - taking care of my two children.
