About GoLP

IST's Laser and Plasma Group - GoLP - was born around 1994. By then, our primary research goals were theoretical studies on plasma physics, fusion, nonlinear optics and dynamical systems.

Following a consistent growth plan, over the years we have extended our abilities to develop a solid reputation in experimental physics and computer simulations as well, and the scope of our research has also broadened to encompass high-power and ultrashort lasers, laser-plasma interaction, complex plasmas, extreme plasma physics, quantum optics, astrophysics, and several other fields. Thanks to a successful funding strategy, we have implemented some unique facilities at our University, such as L2I - the most powerful laser system in Southern Europe, and epp - a sophisticated Macintosh cluster for PIC simulations.

The number of full-time staff has also grown to about thirty, and a number of foreign researchers has been attracted to GoLP. We were also pioneers in organizing the one-semester Undergraduate Research Placements at our University, through which we have contributed to the formation of a new generation of physicists and engineers.
